The church staff and the Parish Nurse Committee of Boiling Springs Baptist Church met this morning to discuss the church’s response to the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in the United States and North Carolina. While we are not an organization whose primary mission is to impact community health, out of love for one another, we place great value on seeking and promoting the safety and well-being of each other and those we reach with the gospel.
We admit we have no protocol for a situation like this and we (community leaders, healthcare professionals and church leaders) are all learning more about the virus and its possible dangers. For the last several days, church leaders have monitored daily developments reported by health and government officials.
In consideration for our active and faithful older population, our children, and those with compromised health and immune systems, we feel it is in the best interest of our church and community to cancel all services and activities for Sunday, March 15, and Wednesday, March 18.
We will be posting a sermon and ministry update this Sunday morning by 10:00 a.m. on our church’s Facebook page.
The church staff and Parish Nurse Committee will meet again on Wednesday, March 18, to assess the situation and evaluate our path going forward.
Our goal is to not overreact, but also to not be careless and risk someone contracting a life-threatening illness for themselves or spreading the virus to a vulnerable candidate as the result of our gathering.
For now, the church office, the Daycare, and the Food Pantry will remain open. Tithes may be brought by the church office, mailed or you may choose to give online. One way to serve others right now is to offer to get groceries or medicine for your elderly or health compromised neighbors.
In the meantime, we encourage you to be prudent and cautious but not panic. Let’s show love to our neighbors by practicing safe hygiene measures and wise social interaction. Please remember to pray for those already suffering from the virus, healthcare professionals, and all leaders making decisions.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
